St John’s Sixth Form Students Continue Groundbreaking Tuberculosis Research Project
Year 12 Chemistry students at St John’s Sixth Form in Bishop Auckland are building on the success of an innovative tuberculosis (TB) drug discovery project developed in partnership with Durham University and Newcastle University. The students have been using computer-aided design techniques to create potential drug molecules and investigate how effectively they interact with a target protein. As part of the project, they have also spent time in the Chemistry laboratories at Durham University, synthesising their designs and preparing them for further analysis.

St John’s Sixth Form Opens Brand-New Learning Resource Centre
St John’s Sixth Form has unveiled its new Learning Resource Centre (LRC), providing students with a dedicated space to study, collaborate and relax in a modern, comfortable environment designed exclusively for sixth formers. The new facility represents the latest investment in enhancing the sixth form experience at St John’s, giving students access to a quiet and welcoming area where they can focus on their studies while also enjoying greater independence as they prepare for university, apprenticeships and future careers.

St John’s Sixth Form Students Support Younger Learners Through New LSA Scheme
Students at St John’s Sixth Form in Bishop Auckland are taking on a valuable new role within the school community through a Learning Support Assistant (LSA) scheme developed in partnership with SENDCO Kathleen Noon. While St John’s Sixth Form is proud of its distinct identity and dedicated sixth form experience, it also recognises the importance of contributing to the wider school community. The new LSA scheme provides Year 12 students with a unique opportunity to support younger pupils while gaining meaningful workplace experience.
