Project Peru
Project Peru is a charitable expedition carried out by Sixth Form students and staff from St John's. Project Peru began in 2009 and, over the years, we have raised tens of thousands of pounds to fund the expeditions and individual building projects. Each year we work in partnership with the local community in Iquitos, assisting with building work to provide a better quality of life for those in need. Since Project Peru began, St John’s students and staff have helped to build dining facilities in a local school, as well as creating classrooms, food kitchens and a bakery for training young people.
In addition to the building projects, we have helped out in local children’s centres, delivering sporting events, classroom workshops and well-being activities.
Whilst in Peru, our groups visit the Amazon rainforest, spending a night under the stars for an experience they will never forget.
In 2023, following the COVID pandemic, our Sixth Form students and staff visited Kenya with African Adventures, carrying out similar charitable work as part of their expedition.
In 2025, our group is returning to Project Peru with 48 Sixth Form students currently fundraising to participate in the charitable expedition. These expeditions have been life-changing for our students and staff and we feel incredibly privileged to work alongside Joe Plumb, the Peru Mission and the local communities within Iquitos.
