Year 12 students from St John’s Sixth Form in Bishop Auckland gathered in South Shields yesterday to celebrate and reflect on a successful first year of sixth form study.
The day provided an opportunity for students to pause, look back on their achievements and prepare for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in Year 13.
School chaplain Emma Ramsey led a period of reflection by the seashore, encouraging students to consider the theme of “looking back with gratitude, looking forward with hope.”
As part of the reflective activity, students were invited to think about any worries, pressures or burdens they had been carrying throughout the year. They then symbolically cast those weights into the waves, marking an opportunity to let go of concerns and embrace a fresh start.
The visit offered a meaningful moment of reflection following a busy and successful academic year. It also gave students the chance to reset before the summer break and begin looking ahead to their final year at St John’s Sixth Form.
With Year 13 on the horizon, students left South Shields with a renewed sense of purpose and optimism as they prepare for the next stage of their sixth form journey.
