Acrobatic gymnastics is a discipline that is often overshadowed by the more widely recognised artistic gymnastics. It involves athletes working in partnerships to perform routines that combine artistry, strength and teamwork through balances and dynamic sequences, relying heavily on trust and coordination to execute complex skills.
Hannah began the sport at the age of eight, initially drawn to how impressive the skills appeared. She was particularly fascinated by the way acrobatic gymnastics blends challenging acrobatic elements with artistry and aesthetics, making even the most difficult skills appear controlled and expressive. Over time, she came to appreciate the strength, flexibility and trust required between partners. Hannah also values the supportive training and competition environment, where everyone encourages each other, which has led to some of her strongest and most valued friendships. For her, acrobatic gymnastics is not only a sport but an important outlet from studying, allowing her to clear her mind and focus on something both physical and creative.
Since starting acrobatic gymnastics at Deerness Gymnastics Academy, Hannah has had many opportunities. In 2024, she was part of the England squad, where her partnership achieved medal success at international competitions — a rewarding experience that reflected the hard work put into training. The following year, she achieved 1st place at the British Championships. This year, she is continuing to progress within the 2026 England development pathway, which provides further opportunities to train, improve and compete.
Training and competing in acrobatic gymnastics has also had a significant impact on Hannah’s personal development. The sport has helped her build resilience, discipline, confidence and teamwork — qualities that support her studies. Balancing training sessions and competitions alongside schoolwork has taught her how to manage her time effectively. Although challenging at times, learning to balance both commitments has helped her stay organised, focused and motivated in her academic work and in the sport.
Hannah is currently taking A Level Geography, Psychology and Biology, while also completing her Extended Project Qualification in Sport Psychology.
